5/31 Volunteer Open Workday: Great Hills Neighborhood Park

Austin Parks Foundation is partnering with the Parks Department and District 10 Council Member Marc Duchen’s office to reduce fire risk at Great Hills by removing downed brush leftover from the 2023 ice storm.

Join your friends and neighbors in supporting your neighborhood park by helping to cut and drag brush from within the park to the Floral Park trailhead where it will then be hauled away. This project will serve as a pilot for low-cost fire mitigation solutions and help us to understand how much can be accomplished in a given timeframe at a given cost. Fires are an ever-growing threat and through your work as a volunteer, there will be a reduction of fire risk to the surrounding neighborhood while drastically reducing project costs!

We’ll meet at the Floral Park Trailhead and get started promptly at 9 AM. Volunteers should dress appropriately with long sleeves and pants to protect yourself from scratches! APF will provide tools, gloves, and snacks – please bring a reusable water bottle to reduce waste.

Thank you so much for giving back to our parks and green spaces!

In the event of dangerous inclement weather such as lightning, hail, or strong winds/ rain, APF staff will direct volunteers to vacate the site immediately.

The event is finished.
